only seabirds fall in love | poetry series (5)

Never fall in love when you’re empty

Fall in love when you’re brimming with water

Fall in love when you taste like warm brandy on A Friday night, when the curtains are drawn and all you can see is warm autumn browns

Fall in love when you’re fully satisfied

Don’t rely on love to satisfy you

Rely on love to burn your throat and weaken your arteries, rely on love to throw you into the air and tear apart your bones

And if you wish for love to teach you something, let it teach you about a soul, let it teach you that a good soul has darkness too
